Personal profile: Marco Sorgato
Marco Sorgato
Marco Sorgato is Research Associate in Manufacturing Technologies and Production Systems at the Department of Industrial Engineering (DII) of the University of Padova. In 2016 he received the PhD in Industrial Engineering with the thesis entitled “Characterization of the micro injection moulding of micro- and nano-structured polymer surfaces”. In 2014 he spent a three-month period at Bradford University as Erasmus PhD working on micro injection molding process monitoring. His main research activities focus on micro technologies, with particular reference to micro injection molding. The main investigated topics are related with:
- Development of innovative process chains for the realization of osteo-inductive micro and nano structured polymer surfaces for bone replacement.
- Characterization of the effects of mold surface properties on both the filling and the demolding phase in micro injection molding. This research activity has focused in particular on the generation of different mold surface topographies with the aim of improve both the filling flow of the polymer melt in narrow cavities and the demolding of the solidified micro parts.
- Analysis of the feasibility of using additive manufacturing technique for the realization of micro-structured mold inserts for micro injection molding of micro fluidic devices.
Marco Sorgato is author of 26 papers in refereed journals and international conference proceedings. He participates as presenter at more than 20 international conferences in the field of polymer processing and micro manufacturing. In 2018 he received the Best Paper Award by the Society of Plastic Engineers and in 2017 the Honorable Mention Paper Award by the International Institution for Micromanufacturing (I2M2), 4M Association and IFMM. He has collaborated with several national and international universities and research centers. He is research affiliate of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), and member of the Polymer Processing Society (PPS), the Society of Plastic Engineers and Associazione Italiana di Tecnologia Meccanica (AITeM).
