Titolo: Machine Intelligence Development at Fraunhofer Italia: from methods to applications
Abstract: Research is essential for technological development as it drives innovation, informs design, and establishes the foundation for creating effective, cutting-edge solutions. Applied research centers play a crucial role by bridging the gap between fundamental research and industry. They facilitate the practical application of academic discoveries, fostering innovation and accelerating the development of new technologies that benefit society. This seminar provides an overview of Fraunhofer Italia's Innovation Engineering Center focusing on its robotics-related activities with examples coming from both basic research as well as industry-funded projects. The most recent initiatives of the Machine Intelligence Development team within the Robotics and Intelligent Systems Engineering department will be presented in more detail, spanning from human-centered technologies to deep learning applied to various fields. Special attention will be given to latest efforts in object representation learning and its role in robotics picking and manipulation tasks.
