Description (Syllabus):

The course will focus on the physical layer of optical fiber telecommunication systems. It will cover the most critical devices and measurement techniques used in optical fiber systems. Within this framework, the course will describe instruments such as the optical time domain reflectometer and the optical spectrum analyzer.

It will also cover the characterization of passive devices such as couplers, isolators, and filters, as well as active devices like amplifiers, modulators, diode lasers, and photodiodes. Additionally, the course will provide a detailed study of transmission equipment.

Students enrolled in this course will have the opportunity to perform 5 laboratory experiments.

Exam modalities:
Written exam and laboratory reports or, for those not attending the lab, written exam and oral exam.
