Dear Students,
Regretfully, I could not record Thursday's lecture since the new room was not equipped with the proper electronic instrumentation. I'll make sure that next lectures on Thursday will be recorded, which will probably require using a tablet instead of the blackboard.
During the last lecture, I discussed Huffman codes (p. 32-34 in my notes, but skipping the details of the proof that they are optimal) and I started to discuss noisy codes (p. 35-36 in my nodes).
As a homework, I proposed to write a program to compute the Huffman code for the text example of which you already computed the entropy.
Note that Monday's Lecture will be in Paolotti Room P1C.
All the best,
Michele Allegra
