The course is divided in two parts: geological engineering (Prof. Catani) and geotechnical engineering (Prof. Ceccato).
At the end of the course, the student will gain a basic and intermediate understanding of rock mechanics and soil mechanics, rock and soil mass characteristics, mass movement classification and characterization, slope stability, static and dynamic liquefaction analysis, site investigations and site monitoring, levee failure mechanisms and stability calculation.
In terms of acquired skills, the course will provide the ability to plan and execute rock mass field and laboratory analysis, soil characterization and field testing, mapping and classification of landslides at different spatial scales, slope stability analysis, levee instability analysis.
