The goal of this course is to introduce the students to the use of transition metal catalysts in homogeneous catalysis. In particular the following arguments will be discussed in detail:

  1. Introduction to chemical kinetics and to homogenous organotransition metal catalysts;
  2. Basic reactions in homogenous organotransition metal catalysis;
  3. Pd-catalyzed cross-couplings and related reactions: from C-C to C-X;
  4. Ni-catalysed cross-couplings;
  5. Introduction on carbene chemistry, carbene transfer and olefin metathesis;
  6. Homogeneous Hydrogenation: from discovery to new catalyst design;
  7. Organometallic fine chemical synthesis with unsaturated substrates;
  8. CO2 valorization reactions.
