Structural Geology and Earth's Dynamics

Period: First semester

Course unit contents: This course will introduce the fundamental tools to understand the dynamics of the Earth's Crust. The main rock deformation structures (fractures, faults, folds etc.) and how they form due to the tectonic forces will be presented. Another part of the course will focus on the understanding of Plate Tectonics and the inner dynamics of the Planet. An introduction to the physics and occurrence of earthquakes will be carried out in the context of Plate Tectonics.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Frontal lessons and in-class excercises with the simulation of tectonic processes via analog modelling.
