Period: First semester

Course unit contents: The course provides fundamental knowledge for understanding the dynamics of the Earth's crust.
It will cover the main rock deformation structures (faults, fractures, folds, etc.) and the ways in which they form due to tectonic stresses.
Part of the course will focus on understanding Plate Tectonics and its underlying mechanisms.
In this context, the mechanics and phenomenology of earthquakes will be introduced, along with basic principles of seismology and an overview of the volatile cycle in geodynamic systems.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Frontal lessons and in-class excercises with the simulation of tectonic processes via analog modelling.

In addition to contacting the course instructor, students with disabilities, Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), Special Educational Needs (SEN), and other health conditions can reach out to the Student Services Office - Inclusion Unit to receive more information about opportunities to access teaching with specific support and tools.
