Newtonian Mechanics: Motion Along a Straight Line; Motion in Two and Three dimensions; Newton’s Laws; Work and Kinetic energy; Potential Energy and Conservation of Energy.
Center of Mass and Linear Momentum.
Rotation: Rotational Variables; Rotational Inertia; Torque; Newton’s Second Law for Rotation; Angular Momentum of a Rigid Body; Conservation of Angular Momentum.
Gravitation: Newton’s Law of Gravitation; Gravitation and Principle of Superposition; Gravitational Potential Energy; Kepler’s Laws.
Oscillations: Simple Harmonic Motion; Energy in Simple Harmonic Motion; Pendulums, Circular motion; Damped Simple Harmonic Motion; Forced Oscillations and Resonance.
**Fluids**
Fluids, Density, Pressure; Pascal’s Principle; Archimedes’ Principle; Equation of Continuity; Bernoulli’s Equation; Ideal and Real Fluids, Viscosity; Poiseuille’s Law; Stoke’s Law, Terminal Velocity; Reynold’s Number; Surface Tension; Cohesive and Adhesive Forces; Capillarity; Jurin’s Law.
**Thermodynamics**
Temperature, Heat, and the First Law of Thermodynamics; Heat Transfer Mechanisms.
Review of the Kinetic Theory of Gases.
Entropy and the Second Law of Thermodynamics: Irreversible Processes; Entropy; Heat Engines and Refrigerators; Thermal Efficiency.
**Electromagnetism**
Charge; Coulomb’s Law; charge Conservation; Charge Quantization; Electric Fields; Electric Potential; Electric Current; Resistance
Magnetism: Magnetic Fields; Charged Particles in a Magnetic Field; Lorentz’s Law; Hall Effect; Geomagnetism.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: There are frontal lessons. At the end of each argument various exercises are developed. Some exercices are proposed as homework.
In parallel to the course there is also lessons made by a tutor.
