Period: Second semester

Course unit contents: 

Atmospheric composition and structure. Atmospheric Thermodynamics: gas laws; hydrostatic equation; first and second laws of thermodynamics. Water vapor in the atmosphere. Use of a thermodynamic diagram. Radiative Transfer. Kinematics of horizontal flow. Coriolis force. Primitive equations of atmospheric dynamics. Introduction to the climate system.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Frontal lectures with exercises.
